Speak up. Stop the stigma. Save lives.

The Vigilant Monkey recently raised over $1,000 for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's Out of the Darkness Community Walk in Long Island, NY, held at Old Westbury Gardens. It was an amazing, moving, and uplifting day that gave everyone in attendance a chance to honor the memory of loved ones lost and celebrate the work of the AFSP and those who have donated their time, money, and support.

The AFSP is many things for many people, but mainly, it is an organization that strives to remove the stigma attached to mental illness, helps those suffering acquire the treatment they need, and works in schools to speak with young adults about depression and suicide. A lot of the money that is raised goes directly to supporting research into the causes of mental illness and new possible treatments. They also have an incredible outreach program for the surviving family and friends of suicide victims.

We could not have been more thrilled that our first social action event as a VM team was for an issue and a cause that in some way has affected us all.

Thank you to all who helped us reach our amazing goal, and look for news of upcoming social action initiatives in the coming weeks!!
